At Wiki Education, we care about making Wikipedia better. Part of this effort is through our own programmatic work to drive impact, but another piece is sharing our learnings with others in the Wikimedia movement. While we often publish about our work, we also enjoy opportunities to share directly with community members by presenting at Wikimedia conferences, reflecting on what we’ve done, what’s worked, and what hasn’t.
This week, Wiki Education staff will travel to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where we will share our work at WikiConference North America, the annual gathering of Wikipedia editors, program leaders, and others from across the North American continent. Wiki Education staff will present several sessions at the conference this year. If you’re attending, please join us for:

- Decoding Wiki Education and EduWiki: How They Differ, led by Wiki Education’s LiAnna Davis and EduWiki Hub Coordinator Bukola James
While the formal program is great for sharing, many of the most important conversations happen in hallways, over meals, or in social events. These connections are crucial for sharing learnings. If you see one of us at the conference, please say hi!
WikiConference North America isn’t the only Wikimedia event on our calendar this year. In July, Wiki Education’s LiAnna Davis traveled to Paris, France to attend Wikimania, the global gathering of Wikimedia contributors worldwide.
Also present at Wikimania were Wiki Education board members Richard Knipel and Carwil Bjork-James, who discussed their own wiki projects. LiAnna participated in two sessions:
- AI and Wikipedia in Education: Opportunities, Ethics, and Equity in Practice: In this panel discussion (pictured above), LiAnna was joined by Luisina Ferrante from Wikimedia Argentina and Jackeline Bucio García from the National Autonomous University of Mexico; the conversation was facilitated by Filip Maljkovic of Wikimedia Serbia. They discussed AI and its use in Wikimedia projects and education programs around the world.
- Become a Programs & Events Dashboard Superuser: In this technical workshop, LiAnna walked through tips and tricks for how to use the Programs & Events Dashboard, developed by Wiki Education. She answered audience questions and highlighted features program leaders may not have been aware of.
LiAnna was also interviewed along with Wikimedians User:Jan-Bart and User:Dnshitobu about their presentations and their experiences at Wikimania.
These face-to-face opportunities to connect with others and share experiences are an important part of Wiki Education’s participation in the global Wikimedia community. Join us!
