The Wiki Education Foundation is a programs-focused organization: Our primary mission is to support the Wikipedia Education Program in the United States and Canada. In recognition of the importance of the programmatic work to our organization, we’ve decided to reorganize our staff and create a formal Programs Department. Within the Programs Department, we have two program managers focused on the Classroom Program: the Educational Partnerships Manager and the Classroom Program Manager. The Educational Partnerships Manager will lead our sustainability initiatives: our partnerships with academic associations and universities. The Classroom Program Manager will continue supporting professors and Ambassadors.
I’m pleased to announce that effective August 1, LiAnna Davis has agreed to take on the role of Director of Programs. Jami Mathewson has been promoted to Educational Partnerships Manager, and we are hiring for the newly created Classroom Program Manager position. We are also hiring a Communications Associate for the Programs Department to take over some of the communications tasks LiAnna has been doing for our organization, in light of her promotion. Our Product Manager for Digital Services, Sage Ross, will continue to report to LiAnna. Both our Digital Services and Communications work is primarily focused on supporting the programmatic activities of our organization, so moving these positions into the Programs Department solidifies our commitment to putting program needs first in the support departments.
LiAnna has worked on the Wikipedia Education Program since the United States pilot phase began in June 2010. She’s also been part of the team that started programs in seven other countries, and she’s supported programs in dozens of more countries. Her expertise in the Wikipedia Education Program will be incredibly valuable in leading the programmatic activities of the Wiki Education Foundation.
Jami has been the point of contact for all United States and Canada program participants since November 2011. As such, she has a deep understanding of program participants’ needs, and the best ways to sustainably scale our impact on Wikipedia. I look forward to seeing Jami’s hard work result in more partnerships with academic associations and universities in the United States and Canada.
Please join me in congratulating LiAnna and Jami on their promotions.
