Join Wiki Education as we uncover the vibrant history of Social Movements in the United States for the public! In our upcoming virtual course, subject-matter experts will immerse themselves in the world of Wikipedia to share key information about social movements—past and present—in the United States with Wikipedia’s millions of readers.
This course empowers you to craft and enrich articles with research related to the intricate workings of social movements and related policy, giving a non-expert audience a better understanding of such complex topics. The types of topics you may choose to delve into include: laws passed thanks to social movements; biographies of social movement leaders and politicians; history of LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, labor rights, disability rights, and women’s rights; and political candidates related to these movements.
All AHA members are eligible to participate in this course. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and we will maintain a waitlist through the start of the course. We especially encourage applications from members who will be able to attend all 8 of the weekly, hour-long meetings. Please note that, in addition to these live sessions, participants will be asked to do about 3 hours of light reading and writing work each week. Applications are due Friday, June 21, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Successful applicants will be notified the following week and asked to confirm their participation.
