Visiting Scholars opportunity at North Dakota State University

We have another exciting announcement for Visiting Scholars. We have an opening at North Dakota State University in partnership with almost 100 departments.

Founded in 1890 as North Dakota’s land grant university, North Dakota State University (NDSU) is a Carnegie-Classified “Higher Research Activity” university. As a land grant university, there is a strong focus on agricultural research, but research interests also include the biomedical fields, materials science, engineering, history, and others.

The NDSU Libraries comprise the Main Library, Business Learning Center, Germans from Russia Heritage Collection, Klai Juba Wald Architectural Studies Library, NDSU Archives, and P.N. Haakenson Health Sciences Library. Their collections include 875,060 physical items, 232 databases, 86,334 e-journal titles, along with their specialized collections. The Libraries’ general collection supports the agricultural sciences, social sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, psychology and computer sciences. NDSU is fully accredited as an institution by the Higher Learning Commission.

Through our Visiting Scholars program, educational institutions empower Wikipedians who like to edit in particular topic areas by giving them remote access to databases, ebooks, and other research resources. Wikipedians gain access to high-quality materials to write about topics they’re already interested in, and institutions make a contribution to public knowledge in a particular field by broadening the impact of their collections.

In an effort to not only address content gaps on Wikipedia, but also to diversify expertise among Wikipedians as well, the Visiting Scholars program is an excellent way to leverage a library’s collection, connecting it to Wikipedia’s millions of readers. A unique feature of this position is that scholars can apply to work with any of the 100 departments in NDSUs discipline areas. There are special collections devoted to Regional Studies as well as the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection.

This particular scholar’s position will require applicants to propose ideas to both the University Libraries as well as the corresponding department(s). The contact at the libraries is Bernhardt Saini-Eidukat. The Libraries and corresponding departments will review applications. This position comes with a $350 honoraria. To fill out the application please follow this link.
